Welding Machines to Africa
We recently supplied three Widos Type 5100 butt welding machines to be used on a unique Gold Mining project in Senegal, West Africa.
Our customer Plasweld Ltd won a contract with an Australian Mining Corporation to supply equipment and training to the local population (some of whom had no previous experience) in the installation of a new 42km polyethylene pipeline. The 355mm and 400mm diameter pipe carries water from the River Faleme to the mining complex, passing through many villages along the way.
Managing Director of Plasweld Jonathan Sykes commented "Whilst I have personally been involved in many projects in Africa, this was the first major award in the territory for Plasweld which was made possible by our proven experience in this field, our strong link and support with IPS and the excellent name of the Widos equipment marketed by them - The project is a major one in the region, providing training and social uplift to local communities as well as benefiting directly from the water pipeline as there are take -off points along the route to feed local villages ".
The Plasweld qualified plastic welding instructor and senior fabricator Andy Knight, carried out instructional training with the three existing teams of welders on site and also three additional teams to accelerate the installation and welding of the pipeline. This brought the overall number of personnel trained to thirty. All training and instruction was carried out in full accordance with BS EN 13067 standards which are applied in all aspects of the Plasweld Plastic welding Certification schemes offered around the world.
